With the introduction of macOS Sonoma (14.0), Apple made some changes that may affect the use of certain drivers, including those for smart card readers.
If you're having trouble activating your itsme account with your eID, you can allow your Mac to use the previous, compatible driver to resolve the issue.
How to Enable the Compatible Driver
-
Update your macOS to version 14.1 or higher via the Mac App Store.
-
Open the Terminal app (found under Applications > Utilities).
-
Copy and paste the following command into the Terminal:
-
Press Enter. You may be asked to enter your admin password—just type it in and press Enter. (Note: The cursor won’t move while typing your password.)
-
Restart your Mac.
-
Go to the itsme website, click "My Account" > "Activate your itsme" at the top right, and follow the steps to activate your account.
This should get your card reader working smoothly again!
